how we carry out our mission as a Committee with participating groups

Twin Cities LGBTQIA+ Friends Steering Committee

Committee Composition

The Steering Committee should, whenever possible, include at least one representative from each group participating in a suite or event. In addition, members-at-large who are not tied to a specific group may also serve to broaden perspectives and strengthen collaboration.

Our Pledge

As a Steering Committee, we commit to:

  • Inclusive Outreach   Develop effective methods of outreach to ensure broad participation from LGBTQIA+ friendly groups in each suite and event.
  • Clear Scheduling & Guidelines   Provide all participating groups with a suite schedule and clear requirements for suite use.
  • Early Event Kickoff   Initiate event planning by contacting leaders within participating groups at a set time each year, ensuring sufficient preparation and coordination.
  • Ongoing Communication   Maintain regular connections with group volunteer coordinators, serving as their primary contact with both the committee and the event.
  • Financial Stewardship   Safeguard the financial health of events by:
    • Ensuring sufficient funding is secured and used prudently
    • Providing groups with a clear understanding of funding needs
    • Identifying areas where additional support is required beyond general food and beverage expenses typically provided by each group

about the Events

Gopher State AA Roundup

This event is typically held over the Memorial Day weekend Friday - Sunday at the Bloomington DoubleTree hotel.  It is one of the largest AA roundups in the Midwest and is an occasion to share the fellowship and to carry the message of AA; with Al-Anon and Alateen participation.  They have had an LGBTQIA+ suite for many years and intend to continue that tradition of providing our community a space within the event.

Founder's Day Minnesota

This event is typically held over the Thanksgiving Day weekend - Saturday also at the Bloomington DoubleTree hotel. It is a one-day event to connect with fellow AA members and honor those with one year of sobriety and celebrate when AA came to Minnesota. And as with Gopher State, they have had an LGBTQIA+ suite for many years and intend to continue that tradition of providing our community a space within the event.
