how we carry out our mission as a Committee with participating groups

Twin Cities LGBTQIA+ Friends Steering Committee

Compliment: Should include, if possible, at least 1 member for each participating group of a suite/event and can include a member at large not tied to anyone specific group.

We pledge to:

  • Develop an effective method for group outreach to gain a wide range of LGBTQIA+ Friendly group participation for the suite in each event.
  • Provide participating groups a suite schedule and requirements for suite use.
  • Begin the initial process of an event kickoff by contacting leaders within participating groups at a set time of year for sufficient event planning.
  • Regularly connect with group volunteer coordinators and act as a contact for their group with the committee and the event.
  • Be responsible for the financial health of the events to ensure we have sufficient funding and that the funds are being used in a prudent manner.  Give the groups a good understanding of the funding needs and where we need assistance over and above general food and beverage expenses that the group would provide.

about the Events

Gopher State AA Roundup

This event is typically held over the Memorial Day weekend Friday - Sunday at the Bloomington DoubleTree hotel.  It is one of the largest AA roundups in the Midwest and is an occasion to share the fellowship and to carry the message of AA; with Al-Anon and Alateen participation.  They have had an LGBTQIA+ suite for many years and intend to continue that tradition of providing our community a space within the event. Visit their website for more information on the event and to register: Gopher State Roundup

Founder's Day Minnesota

This event is typically held over the Thanksgiving Day weekend - Saturday also at the Bloomington DoubleTree hotel. It is a one-day event to connect with fellow AA members and honor those with one year of sobriety and celebrate when AA came to Minnesota. And as with Gopher State, they have had an LGBTQIA+ suite for many years and intend to continue that tradition of providing our community a space within the event. Visit their website for more information on the event and to register: Founder's Day 2024
